Sacred Trees of the Celtic Year: Hazel (Coll)

  • Virtually Via Zoom (map)

As summer begins its gentle turn toward harvest, we arrive at the Hazel tree—one of the most revered trees in Celtic tradition and a symbol of wisdom, inspiration, and sacred knowledge.

In Irish mythology, the hazel trees that grew beside the Well of Wisdom dropped their nuts into the water, where they were eaten by the Salmon of Knowledge. From these stories, Hazel became associated with insight, intuition, creativity, and the deeper understanding that arises when we learn to listen carefully to both the world around us and the wisdom within.

This month invites us to pause and consider what life has been teaching us. What knowledge have we gathered through experience? What lessons have been passed down through family, mentors, ancestors, or the natural world itself? And how might we carry that wisdom forward as we move toward the harvest season?

During our live gathering, we'll explore the folklore, symbolism, and spiritual traditions surrounding the Hazel tree, including its connection to wisdom, divination, inspiration, and ancestral knowledge. Together, we'll engage in seasonal practices designed to help cultivate clarity, deepen intuition, and strengthen our connection to the guidance available to us.

We'll also share in a reflective circle, exploring the wisdom that has shaped our lives and the insights we are being invited to gather during this season.

For those who prefer to move at their own pace, a Virtual Pass is available. Virtual participants receive the class recording along with all accompanying materials and can engage with the video recording for a two-week period following our gathering. After that, access to the video recording will gently close.

Whether you join us live or through the Virtual Pass, Hazel offers an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and remember that wisdom often arrives not all at once, but like a nut falling quietly into still water—creating ripples that continue long after the moment has passed.

During this live class, we will explore:

Hazel Lore, Symbolism & Sacred Wisdom

Together we will journey into the mythology and spiritual symbolism of Hazel, one of the most revered trees of the Celtic tradition. Associated with wisdom, inspiration, creativity, and hidden knowledge, Hazel invites us to seek understanding beyond the surface and cultivate a deeper relationship with intuition, insight, and the teachings of both nature and our ancestors.

Wisdom, Intuition & Inner Knowing

As we move toward the first harvest season, Hazel asks us to pause and consider what life has been teaching us. Through guided reflection and seasonal practices, we will explore the difference between information and wisdom, learning how to trust our own inner knowing while remaining open to the lessons offered by experience, community, and the natural world.

The Wisdom of the Ancestors

Hazel has long been connected to ancestral knowledge and the transmission of wisdom through generations. We will explore ways of connecting with the guidance, stories, and teachings that have shaped our lives, while reflecting on the wisdom we are gathering and carrying forward ourselves.

Hazelnut Divination Practice & Guided Meditation

You will be guided through a simple seasonal divination practice inspired by Hazel's traditional association with prophecy, insight, and inspiration. Together, we will also share a grounding meditation designed to quiet the mind, deepen awareness, and create space for wisdom to emerge. If you feel called, you are welcome to bring a hazelnut, acorn, small stone, or meaningful natural object to work with during our practice, though nothing is required.

Sharing Circle

A warm and supportive space to reflect on the wisdom that has shaped your path, the lessons you are currently gathering, and the insights that may be waiting just beneath the surface of everyday life.
