“A woman rooted in nature remembers who she is.”

~Kathleen Lowe, Founder, Friends of the Forest

Connecting Women with Nature
is at the Heart of Everything We Do

Friends of the Forest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, based in Connecticut and held quietly across the world. We hold space for women through writing, seasonal gatherings, community, and correspondence — each offering rooted in the natural world. We believe true wellness arises when we live in harmony with the earth, with ourselves, and with the rhythms of the spirit. Our mission is to help women return to that natural balance — by deepening their connection to nature, nurturing physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, and creating space for inner peace and soulful reflection to grow.

Here, there is room for you.

Room to rest, remember, and rise. Take the door that fits where you are.

The Hidden Manuscripts

The Hidden Manuscripts is a literary magazine devoted to original mythic storytelling rooted in nature, memory, and quiet transformation. Each month, I bring together the stories I've shared on social media into a beautifully designed volume, creating a lasting collection to read, revisit, and keep.

Take a Nature Wellness Journey With Us

  • Wonder Walks In Nature

Inspired by the practice of forest bathing, these gentle walks invite you into a slower rhythm. Through simple sensory invitations, you’ll be guided to notice, feel, and soften into the living world around you.

You may find your thoughts quiet, your heart open, and a sense of awe—or clarity—begin to arise. The forest becomes a mirror, a companion, a place of belonging.

This isn’t about distance or destination.

It’s about being fully here—listening, sensing, and simply receiving what the forest offers.

Step into stillness. Let the land remind you of what matters.

  • Equine-Inspired Wisdom

We’ve created equine-based experiences for women seeking peace and a deeper connection within themselves. These offerings provide a chance to step away from daily demands and cultivate a heightened awareness of body and emotion through the gentle presence of horses.

By forming a bond with these magnificent animals, you open to a richer connection with your inner self and the natural world around you. Horses, with their strength, grace, and freedom, invite us to attune to a deeper energy beyond ourselves—offering guidance, calm, and inspiration through their quiet companionship.

  • Gather With Us

Our offerings create a sanctuary for women — a place to slow down, connect with the natural world, and move in rhythm with the turning of the seasons.

Whether you walk with us in the forests of Connecticut, sit with a horse in quiet council, or gather with women online for a multi-week journey through the Wheel of the Year, each offering invites you to step away from the noise of daily life and return to what is quiet, true, and your own.

Together we honor the wisdom of trees, the language of the land, and the deep rhythms that live within each of us.

  • Our Digital Library

Our Digital Library is a growing collection of guides, journeys, and seasonal writings — a place to walk with the wisdom of the trees, the turning of the wheel, and the traditions of women's earth wisdom, on your own time and in your own way.

Inside, you'll find guides for each of the twelve Celtic trees, writings for each turn of the Wheel of the Year, and personalized journeys crafted for the woman ready to go deeper. Each one is meant to be read slowly, returned to often, and carried into your own life.

Whether you are new to this path or have been walking it for years, the Library is a companion for the quiet hours — a way to bring the wisdom of nature into your home, your practice, and your becoming.

  • Our Patreon Community

A quiet gathering space for women walking a slower, more intentional path.

Rooted in the rhythms of nature and the wisdom of the feminine, Wildflower Women is a private online community held on Patreon—created for those who long to reconnect with themselves in a gentle, meaningful way.

Here, we honor the sacred in the everyday. Through seasonal rituals, reflective practices, and shared moments of tenderness, we explore what it means to live with presence, care, and authenticity. It’s not about doing more—it’s about remembering who you are beneath the noise.

  • The Light Bearer Sisters

Our written penpal program — an ongoing, heart-led correspondence between women who choose to share their light across distance.

Our community has grown into a constellation of women stretching across states, borders, and oceans — each carrying her own story, her own strength, and her own quiet glow. Through the old-fashioned magic of handwritten mail, two women are matched with intention and care.

There is no schedule, no requirement, no pressure. Write when you feel called, send what feels true, and allow the relationship to unfold in its own rhythm — one envelope, one blessing at a time.

Writings From the Stillness

By immersing ourselves in nature, we can rediscover a sense of peace and connection that is essential for our emotional and spiritual well-being.

The Art of Being

  • Living The Wheel of the Year

Nature is our teacher and sanctuary, offering us the space to slow down, reconnect, and simply be. In nature, we can feel rather than think, receive rather than give, and restore ourselves rather than constantly strive for perfection. The Wheel of the Year is the ancient framework that honors this wisdom — a sacred Celtic calendar marking eight festivals through the turning of the seasons.

The natural world grounds us, helps us reconnect with our bodies, and nourishes our spirits in ways that no external achievement ever can. Each turn of the wheel — from the deep rest of Yule to the fire of Beltane, the harvest of Lammas to the threshold of Samhain — reminds us that we, too, move through cycles of rest, growth, surrender, and renewal.

We believe that every woman deserves to experience the radiant beauty of her true self, and that nature holds the key to unlocking this deeper connection. When we honor the lessons of the earth and walk the wheel with intention, we come home to ourselves.

  • Celtic Tree Journeys

In the Celtic tradition, every person is born under the sign of a specific tree. Not chosen. Not assigned. Waiting. Long before your first breath, a living presence on this earth was already keeping watch for you — her roots drinking from the same water that would one day move through your body, her branches shaped by the same winds that would one day shape your life.

Your tree carries wisdom about your nature and your seasons. About the thresholds you will cross and the practices that will steady you. About the griefs you were born knowing how to hold, and the joys you were born knowing how to reach for. A personalized Celtic journey is the written record of that meeting — a doorway into relationship with your tree, the turning of the seasons, and the quiet wisdom already alive within you.

Each journey is written by hand, from scratch, in the same quiet hours I would give to a letter meant for someone I love. There are no templates, no scripts — only your name, your story, and the tree that has been waiting for you all along.
