“Horses can help us reconnect with others and the universe itself, rediscover peace and mindfulness, and become our best selves."
— Allan J. Hamilton, MD (author of Zen Mind, Zen Horse)
In Partnership with High Hopes Therapeutic Riding Center | Old Lyme, Connecticut
This offering was created with deep intention—born from a desire to provide a sacred space where women can step away from the demands of life and find restoration through nature and the healing presence of horses. Together with our partners at High Hopes Therapeutic Riding Center, a place known for its integrity, compassion, and beautifully tended land, we invite you into an experience that is both grounded and soulfully expansive.
High Hopes provides the perfect sanctuary for this work—nestled in the quiet landscape of Old Lyme, Connecticut, where open fields, forest paths, and the gentle rhythm of the horses offer a natural container for reflection, emotional clarity, and connection.
This is not a riding experience. The horses are free—unhaltered, unburdened, and able to choose connection on their own terms. In this way, they become true partners in presence. Their quiet curiosity, their grounded energy, and their ability to reflect the unspoken often invite moments of profound personal insight.
Horses carry a unique ability to mirror our true nature and invite us into heartfelt connection. Their spirit resonates with freedom, courage, and openness, guiding us beyond words into a place of profound reflection and renewal. This journey is a sacred pause, a retreat where you can explore your inner landscape with compassion and gentle curiosity, supported by the calming companionship of horses and the beauty of the natural world around you.

Your Equine Facilitator from High Hopes
Kim Severance, CTRS, ESHHL, CTRI, MMES
From a young age, Kim has harbored a profound love for animals, with horses holding a special place in her heart. Her journey into the equestrian world began at the tender age of five, quickly evolving from casual riding to competitive events both on the flat and over jumps. These early experiences not only honed her skills but also deepened her empathy and appreciation for horses as sentient beings.
Holding a Master of Science in Recreation and Leisure, Kim has dedicated her career to therapeutic recreation, becoming a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) in 2006. Her approach is unique, integrating animals ranging from dogs and dolphins to horses into her therapy sessions. She is continually inspired by the significant insights and transformations her clients achieve through these interspecies interactions.
In 2019, Kim shifted her focus to primarily working with horses, earning her certification as a therapeutic riding instructor (CTRI) through PATH, followed by her qualification as an equine specialist in mental health and learning (ESMHL). Driven by a desire to reciprocate the healing horses provide, Kim has also delved into equine bodywork. As a certified Masterson Method Equine Specialist (MMES), she finds joy in fostering trust and connection, enhancing the well-being of her equine companions.
Kim's philosophy centers on encouraging individuals to live in the moment, remain inquisitive, and trust their instincts—lessons she believes are best taught by our equine partners. Her passion and dedication not only highlight the therapeutic power of animals but also underscore the profound bond between humans and horses.
