The Peace Walk: A Forest Bathing Experience in Attention, Presence, and Seeing

  • Sheep Farm North 126 Hazelnut Hill Road Groton, CT, 06340 United States (map)

There is a way of moving through the world that is slower, quieter, and more attuned to what is already here. Most of us have simply forgotten how.

Our days are filled with constant input—notifications, images, information—pulling our attention in many directions at once. Even when we step outside, we often carry that same fragmentation with us. The Peace Walk is an invitation to return. Not by removing the modern world, but by meeting it differently.

This is not a hike or a photography class. It is a guided forest bathing experience, gently woven with mindful photography, designed to restore your attention and reconnect you with the living world. Over the course of two and a half hours, you will move slowly through a series of sensory invitations—listening, noticing, pausing—allowing your body and mind to settle into a different rhythm.

At certain moments, you will be invited to use your phone in a way that may feel unfamiliar. Not to scroll or capture everything, but to take a single photograph—just one—when something truly meets your attention. These invitations are offered gently, one at a time, allowing you to meet each moment without expectation. In this way, your phone becomes not a distraction, but a quiet tool for presence.

Why Photography

Our phones are often the source of our distraction—but they can also become a doorway. In this walk, photography becomes a practice of attention.

By limiting yourself to one image per invitation, something begins to shift:

  • You slow down

  • You choose more carefully

  • You begin to feel when a moment is enough

The photograph becomes less about the image, and more about the act of noticing.
A quiet acknowledgment: I was here. I saw this.

What You’ll Experience

We begin by arriving.

Slowing the body.
Softening the senses.
Letting the nervous system settle into the landscape.

From there, on our walk, you’ll be guided through a series of quiet, intentional invitations—each one offering a different way of seeing.

  • into the small and intricate, noticing what is usually overlooked

  • toward the feeling of slowness, allowing your body and breath to shift

  • into light, reflection, and subtle movement, where the world mirrors itself

  • to what is easily missed or hidden, at the edges of attention

  • into contrast and texture, where difference becomes visible

  • or toward moments of stillness, where nothing is asked of you at all

Each invitation is offered one at a time.

There is no need to anticipate what comes next.

Between them, there is space—

to walk,
to feel,
to let the experience deepen.

At times, we gather in small circles to share—not as critique, but as witnessing. What you saw, what you felt, what surprised you. These moments allow the experience to expand—what begins as something personal becomes something held collectively.

As the walk unfolds, you may find your attention becoming more refined—drawn toward what is usually overlooked, or toward subtle changes in pace, light, and feeling. This work is simple, but not insignificant. As your attention steadies, something begins to shift. A sense of calm emerges naturally. Clarity arises without force. And you may begin to notice the moment before reaching for distraction—the place where a different choice becomes possible.
