By November, the trees have begun to let us see through them. The paths are covered in leaves, the light leaves earlier, and there are evenings when the darkness seems to arrive before we have quite finished with the day.
It is in this part of the year, with Samhain just behind us and winter still ahead, that we will gather to meet Hecate at the gate.
On the new moon, we will spend an evening with this goddess of crossroads and thresholds, exploring what her stories and symbols might offer us in our own lives. There are times when we find ourselves between things—an old way of living and something we cannot yet picture, a decision made and the life that follows it, the person we have been and the woman we are still getting to know.
These are the places we will bring into our circle.
Together, we will explore Hecate’s ancient symbolism: her torches, her keys, her presence at the crossroads. We will weave these images into nature-centered rituals, journaling, and quiet reflection, following the November landscape into questions of our own. What are we ready to lay down? What needs tending through the winter? What small beginning might we wish to make room for beneath this new moon?
There will be time to listen, time to write, and room to share if you wish. We will close with a blessing and simple practices you can return to at home, allowing the evening to continue in your own way.
Your Invitation to Pause
I wanted to offer this gathering in November because there is something about this month that asks for a different kind of attention. With so much falling away outside, we may begin to notice what we have been carrying ourselves. A question we keep putting aside. A feeling that returns whenever the house grows quiet. A wish we have hardly admitted, even to ourselves.
This evening gives us somewhere to bring those things.
Perhaps you are standing at a crossroads. Perhaps something in your life has ended, but what comes next has not yet become clear. Or perhaps you simply want an evening among women, with story, reflection, and a little space to hear your own thoughts.
You are welcome in all of it.
You do not need to know anything about Hecate or have experience with ritual. You can come with curiosity, with uncertainty, with a notebook full of questions or no words at all. Sharing is always an invitation. There is just as much room here for the woman who wishes to listen.
Hecate’s Invitation
I am drawn to the image of Hecate standing at the gate with a torch and a key. I think of all the thresholds we cross in a life, and how few of them come with a clear announcement. Sometimes we recognize them only afterward, when we look back and realize that something changed there.
And sometimes we know exactly where we are standing. We can feel the old life behind us and the uncertainty ahead. We linger at the gate because leaving and arriving each ask something of us.
During this gathering, we will spend time with that place between.
We will also explore shadow gently—the feelings we tuck away, the desires we dismiss, the parts of ourselves that have had little room to speak. There may be something there that needs our kindness. There may be something we are ready to understand differently.
Hecate’s torch will be an image we return to throughout the evening: a little light held close enough to see by.
Outside, November will be moving toward winter. The moon will be beginning again, still hidden from view. And we will gather with our own unfinished stories, making time to listen for what comes next.
