Wild Weaving (SOLD OUT)

  • Private Residence in Lyme Lyme, CT United States (map)

Plants are integral to reweaving the connection between land and people. A place becomes a home when it sustains you,
when it feeds you in body as well as spirit.’

Robin Wall Kimmerer

Artist and weaver Brenda Vynalek joins us again for a special offering on Mother’s Day. We will begin our time together with a quiet meditative forest bathing walk, led by Kathleen, around a beautiful, private hay field and awake to the place, to the plants, the weather, and other elements. In the enfolding landscape, you are invited to let the wind play through your hair, walk barefoot on the earth's flanks, become more intimately acquainted with the spirit of the land and grasses, and feel part of the weave of our more-than-human landscape.

Asking for Permission and Making Offerings

As your senses fully engage in this evolving relationship, we will learn how to tune into the land and ask permission from the land and grass spirits to gather grasses for our weaving. This way of relating to the plants brings a sense of connection, intimacy, and belonging in this place. We abide by the precept of the ‘Honourable Harvest’ that Robin Wall Klimmerer describes in her book Braiding Sweetgrass:

“Know the ways of the ones who take care of you, so that you may take care of them. Introduce yourself. Be accountable as the one who comes asking for life. Ask permission before taking. Abide by the answer. Give thanks for what you have been given. Give a gift, in reciprocity for what you have taken.”

Wild Weaving

Once we have gathered our grasses, we will gather together in circle, and Brenda will guide us through a meditation and lead us through an afternoon of sacred weaving. Everyone will be provided with a small wooden frame already set with the warp threads so that we can spend our time weaving and honoring Mother Earth. We will be creating a small grass mat that you can use to hold your crystals or items sacred to you or on your desk to hold your tea or coffee or whatever speaks to you.

Kind Thoughts, Kind Words, Kind Actions

We will honor Mother Earth on her day by sharing a special blessing and meditation just for her by filling our hearts with as much gratitude as we can and sending it back down to her, letting her know just how much you appreciate everything she does for the human race.

What You Can Expect

  • We will begin with a short meditation to deepen our connection with the wild.

  • During our walk, we will focus on deepening your nature listening skills through a series of invitations. As you get to know the spirits of the land (and they you), they begin to co-create with you.

  •  We will provide baskets for harvesting grass during our walk.

  • After our walk, Brenda will explain wild weaving and offer guidance as we begin our project.

  • We will provide herbal tea and homemade honey lavender cake.

  • We will close our time together by offering Mother Earth gratitude and sharing our experiences.

  • $45 investment (supplies included)

  • You will leave with a beautiful hand-woven grass mat you set with your intentions and a deep-rooted connection to Mother Earth—reminding us that we are not separate from nature; we are all a part of nature.
