Do you want to bring more peace into your life or get in touch with your inner wise woman/man? Do you want to honor a friend or ancestor or the earth, moon, or sea? Do you have a spirit guide? If you want a deeper connection to your ancestors, your spiritual guides, or the Divine in some way, a Spirit Doll can be a great vehicle to accomplish that. Creating a Spirit Doll representing an ancestor or guide is a beautiful way to honor and celebrate a loved one and tap into the wisdom associated with a particular energy or being.
In this workshop, we will create our doll from gifts gathered in nature. Creating a Spirit Doll made from sticks and twigs from nature is the oldest and most powerful way to make a doll, as it is charged with the highest universal power.
We will create one spirit/intention doll from sticks, moss, fabric, yarn, and other embellishments. We will provide a supply of materials and a variety of clay faces to add a face to your doll. Please feel free to bring twigs or branches from your favorite tree or walk (8”-10”), stones, small pine cones, moss, dried flowers, pods, grasses, and other natural items. You can also bring charms, talismans, crystals, bits of jewelry, and found objects that hold meaning to you. Or — you can let her develop organically and intuitively choose fabrics and embellishments without making conscious choices ahead of time. Bring your intentions and your special items, and let’s create. No sewing skills are required.
What are Spirit Dolls?
Spirit dolls are handmade beings that protect the home, draw love and good fortune, aid in divination, and act as recipients for offerings to ancestors and familial spirits. These dolls, made from natural items collected by hand from the harvest of Mother Nature, are recognized by cultures worldwide. Spirit Dolls are often adorned with good luck charms, lucky pieces, talismans, and amulets. Our ancestors have been making Spirit Dolls for healing and enchantment for millennia. The magick of these dolls is that they bridge the gap between the seen and unseen and connect us to our ancestors across the ages.
What to Expect
We will begin our afternoon with a reflective meditation in nature and use this time to relax our minds and focus inward, asking ourselves, “What do I need from my Spirit Doll? What is my intention for her at this time?”
We will then head indoors and prepare a sacred space to make your doll. Please feel free to bring any crystals or beautiful gifts from the earth that can support our space in feeling safer, more welcoming, more tolerant, or more sacred.
Through guidance from our facilitator and artist, Carol Marion, we will let our doll evolve at her own pace, crafted from materials gathered from the forest floor to add sacred, grounding Earth energy to her being.
Herbal teas and light refreshments will be served.
We will gather in Circle to share our thoughts and reflections and charge our doll with our collective positive energy.

Our Guide
Carol Marion is an incredibly talented multi-media artist who creates fabric collages, art quilts, spirit and art dolls, paper, mixed media, and art journaling. Nature informs her creations, providing inspiration and materials. She is a veggie gardener, hiker, and camper and prefers going barefoot whenever possible.
