Meet Our Beautiful Freya

To Know The Story Of Freya, You First Need To Know
The Story About Luna…

Luna was a beautiful white/gray Percheron cross mare I adopted from CT Draft Horse Rescue (CDHR) in June 2023. She was so emaciated she could barely walk off the trailer when she arrived at CDHR. Unfortunately, that is the case with so many discarded draft horses rescued out of auction.

Building trust after past mistreatment is a delicate and intricate process. It requires patience, understanding, and a deep commitment to healing the wounds inflicted by previous experiences. Luna, my beloved mare, had taught me the importance of trust and its transformative power. She blossomed from a reserved soul into a spirited and gentle lady, finding solace in our women's meditation circles, where she helped others heal through her serene nature. Luna was flourishing in her newfound purpose until tragedy struck with unexpected force on Monday, November 6, 2023.

The sudden loss of Luna shattered my heart into a million pieces, leaving me devastated and unable to fathom moving forward with another horse. The mere thought of replacing her seemed unimaginable. However, an inexplicable force drew me back to CDHR shortly after her passing. I felt the need to be near the herd again, returning to the very place where I had first met my Luna. As tears streamed down my face, I entered the rescue and immediately noticed a shy mare named Betsy peering out of her run-in. Little did I know that Betsy would soon become Freya – another remarkable being who would help mend my broken heart.

Freya exuded an air of mystery that was both alluring and cautious. Her reserved nature was undeniable yet captivatingly intriguing. Spending time with Freya helped mend my broken heart, as we formed an unspoken connection that made it clear she was meant to be a part of my life. Adopting Freya felt like turning a new page in my journey, bringing hope and joy back into my days.

Freya's arrival marked not only a fresh start for me but also an opportunity for both of us to overcome past trauma and rebuild trust together. On that fateful Friday, January 19, 2024, she stepped off the trailer, carrying with her a past that had scarred her deeply.

Freya's journey is one of resilience as she gradually rebuilds the trust that was shattered by humans who treated her unkindly. With each passing day, she grows more confident in the knowledge that not all humans are cruel or indifferent. Through gentle interactions and consistent care, we are bridging the gap between past mistreatment and future trust.

In this new chapter of our lives, Freya and I embark on a shared journey towards healing and growth. We have both experienced heartbreak and loss, but together we find solace in each other's presence. Freya has become a symbol of hope – proof that wounds can heal and trust can be restored even after enduring unimaginable pain.

While Luna will always hold a special place in my heart, adopting Freya has allowed me to find solace in knowing that life moves forward even after loss. Through embracing new beginnings and opening our hearts to healing connections, we can find comfort amidst tragedy and create beautiful stories out of unexpected circumstances.

Thank you for being a part of our journey.

Wild Blessings,
